When I got the first assignment for the new GFWC blog I was puzzled as to what to write about! My mentor… Who was my mentor? I don’t have a mentor? A football game was on in background, my husband was watching a holiday bowl game & my mind kept wandering? Who is my mentor???

Well my Mother, not a club woman herself, has a heart as big as Texas! Mother is one who never puts herself first. She is a hard worker, excellent caregiver and would give away her last dime. She taught me to put others needs first and Southern hospitality! There was never a party or holiday event with too many guests & short notice was not a problem. Every holiday she would invite family, friends, and neighbors.

My Grandmother, my Mother’s Mother, Dollie was a club woman with a 50 year pin! She and my Grandfather raised my Mother and her four brothers on a West Texas farm, cooking for the family and farm hands, keeping a clean house and her family in clean freshly pressed clothes; always had a pie or cake in the oven. When I was growing up she had all her family every Sunday after church for a wonderful lunch that always included mouthwatering homemade rolls! Not only was Dollie a homemaker she was very active in her community! She was involved with not one club but two. A WOMAN school board member and served as President for years, planned proms, sewed the gowns & made softball uniforms so the girls could play a boys sport! She traveled to Washington DC to speak to Congress. She spearheaded events to raise money to build a Clubhouse. I loved to go with her to club!

So I do have a mentor!!! My Mother, Grandmother and My Three Girls who inspire me each day!
