Arts and Crafts

One of the things I have enjoyed most in GFWC membership is the annual Arts and Crafts Show sponsored by my district.  (GFWC Illinois District 10)   We have an unusually large district of 14 clubs, and three of them are among the largest in the state.  Ladies from clubs around the district bring their arts and craft work to show and to be judged.   The winners receive ribbons and recognition.  As adults how many times do we get to be recognized for our handiwork and hobbies?  We see our kids win awards all the time, but this is the time for Mom and Grandma to be recognized.  Time for the kids to be proud of us!

The work displayed is truly amazing and beautiful.  There are paintings, pencil drawings, photos, knit, crochet, cross stitch, quits and a myriad of other projects.  Oh, and my photo of a table setting from State Night at the GFWC International Convention in June won first place in Photos.  I am proud that my club, Antioch Woman’s Club did very well in the show.

Similar projects are also displayed and judged at our GFWC Illinois State Convention in May.  I’m really looking forward to seeing the work of Illinois’s  most talented women then.  Any clubwoman in Illinois can enter a project.  The rules are available on our state website, www.gfwcillinois.org

What a great project in celebration of the arts and a wonderful way to bring the ladies of your district together! The pencil drawing of the train is amazing! Does that member sell her work?

Karen, thank you so much for bringing our Arts & Crafts Show to the Women of Illinois. It was truly a wonderful display of our Tenth District Clubwomen in action, painting, cross stitching, knitting, photography, Christmas decorations, pencil drawing and lots more it was a great turn out and yes many are grandmothers and need a thank you with a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place ribbon.
