Maria and Barb

Maria and Barb

I have to tell the story of one of  the past presidents of my club.  Barb Gray was a sleepwalker.  On Dec. 14, 2005, the day of our club Christmas Party,  she got up in the middle of the night, opened her locked basement door, and fell all the way down the stairs to the basement.  She broke her neck.

Dave, her wonderful husband,  found her and called Rescue.

Now, years later, she is still in a wheel chair, paralyzed, a quadriplegic.  But she can move all her extremities a little  and feels a lot of pain.  Her being alive at all is a miracle, but her ability to recover is an inspiration.  Barb gets to our meetings and plays bridge in at least one regular group.  She is cheerful and hopeful most of the time.

The amazing thing about all this is Woman’s Club!  We’ve been there to bring her things, cheer her up, drive her around in her special van, play bridge with her, talk to her, read to her, laugh with her, cry with her, keep her company, and love her!  I can’t imagine life without my sisters in the General Federation.

I want to say a special thank you to Maria Anderson, our club Card Ambassador and very special lady, for all she personally does for Barb.  It was Maria that first set up a card group at Barb’s house and learned how to drive the van, so Dave doesn’t have to come to all our meetings.

Woman’s Club seems to bring out the very best in each of us.  There is a lot of meaning to our Collect that asks to know the great, common human heart of us all!

Thank you, Barb, for helping us learn how to be kind.

I am Barbara’s friend and I don’t think I do for her any thing that she wouldn’t do for me is the situation was reversed. Barb is the one that has learned to live with her disability and tries every day to get better. Thank you for comments Karen you are also a good friend. Maria

Barb is a remarkable woman as she strives to carry on a normal life. She is a very lovable person and we all try to share in her love. It is amazing to watch her show us new things she can do and she praises her therapy treatments. I am privileged to have Barb as a friend and I know this friendship will last a long time. God has blessed her and will continue to do so. Mabel Lou
