A Great Loss in Illinois

Illinois is very sad to have lost a young, vibrant District President. Jonie Sieghartner had a stroke (brain bleed) at her district convention March 10th. Jonie passed away a few days later.

Writing a grant is a lot like writing a business plan. But don’t let that scare you. A grant proposal has several sections that allow a foundation to get to know the need in your community and how your project plans to meet that need.
Explain the need
This portion of your funding request, isn’t the time [...]

Recharging the Battery.

  by allison on 03/24/09

Hope you have some Springy weather where you are. Lots of things are going on here in NC and apparently I am getting overwhelmed. I don’t think I am bothered by everything on my calendar but my stomach has been nervous and full of butterflies for the past couple of weeks so obviously something is giving me a sign.

My mother and I were on the way to see her sister, when we came up with these.  It was a way of taking our mind off the fact her sister was dying – but I hope you will like these as much we laughed about them and someone can add to my list.  I [...]

Legislation Day

  by karen on 03/15/09

Every year GFWC Illinois schedules Legislation Day. It’s a day in our state capital for our members. This year there were about 60 ladies that attended. Citizens need to take a little time to get to know their legislators. It was terrific experience for all of us. Not only did we get to bond with our sisters from all over the state, we got a real education on what the daily life of a law maker is all about. I can’t stress the importance of an educated electorate to you. I guess this is really my “Passion Project!”

Memorable quote: Nothing moves fast in a Democracy!

I’m not sure what happened to my walkin’-around-money, but over the past six months it has disappeared along with a lot of my retirement savings. This is not the way I planned it when I retired in June 2007.

If you are a fan of the long-running syndicated show “Gilmore Girls,” then you know about Lorelai Gilmore’s love for snow. Every season when it starts to snow, she sniffs the air and goes through her list of all the wonderful things that happen in the winter, and she (almost) makes me long to be surrounded by the white powdery stuff.
