I’m A Clubwoman

So often when I think about domestic violence I tend to focus only on women. After all, they are usually the ones that take the brunt of the abuse whether it’s verbal, physical or emotional.

We had an opening thought at a recent meeting that was just great. It was a wonderful list of “Why I Love GFWC.”

I’d like to start off our list with this thought:

Illinois is very sad to have lost a young, vibrant District President. Jonie Sieghartner had a stroke (brain bleed) at her district convention March 10th. Jonie passed away a few days later.

The March 20th was the first day of spring and Persian New Year.

Family, business, and Woman’s Club must-do activities have all converged early in this month of March.

Every year GFWC Illinois schedules Legislation Day. It’s a day in our state capital for our members. This year there were about 60 ladies that attended. Citizens need to take a little time to get to know their legislators. It was terrific experience for all of us. Not only did we get to bond with our sisters from all over the state, we got a real education on what the daily life of a law maker is all about. I can’t stress the importance of an educated electorate to you. I guess this is really my “Passion Project!”

I’m not sure what happened to my walkin’-around-money, but over the past six months it has disappeared along with a lot of my retirement savings. This is not the way I planned it when I retired in June 2007.

If you are a fan of the long-running syndicated show “Gilmore Girls,” then you know about Lorelai Gilmore’s love for snow. Every season when it starts to snow, she sniffs the air and goes through her list of all the wonderful things that happen in the winter, and she (almost) makes me long to be surrounded by the white powdery stuff.
