I am trying to get “caught up” on all the ways to keep in touch with everyone. I started with a MySpace page, mainly to keep an eye on Catherine, my 14 yr. old. I found a lot of friends there too, but I just didn’t have the time to constantly update my site as some of the others seemed to.

Then I found Facebook. I like it much better. Not as much stuff going on and pretty straight forward. I found more contacts from high school and relatives here so I get to keep in touch much more. I also like it because my phone supports it and I can check it anytime, anywhere I have my cell phone.

Which brings me to text messaging. I love this. With my depression, I have days I don’t want to deal with people. With text messages I can send or receive a quick note and send/get a reply and be done with it. I do it so much I had to get a phone with a keyboard on it! So between texting and Facebook….I think my phone is indispensible.

Now on to Twitter. Tweeting is something new to me and I’m still getting the hang of it. Basically it’s like little status updates from everyone you follow. It can be corporations, friends, local papers, musicians, actors, ets. I follow 13 people right now, but that’s because I know there are more out there to follow…just haven’t found them. I was in a breakout session about blogging just today and she said that after 6 months of Twitter she finally got it. Guess there is hope for me! I did find GFWC on there at womenvolunteers.

I haven’t even covered the other blogs and journal…which frighten me. I know there are privacy settings, but putting my deepest thoughts out on the web for people to see…..I’m just not too sure about that. I figured this would be a good start to check it out.

So if you want to find me…check these out:

AIM name: aelee69

Twitter name: alee93

Facebook: Amee Lee

I do have my privacy settings on most of these, but put in the message that you are with GFWC and I’ll be sure to add you.

Amee Lee! Thought I’d give you all a look at my life both in and out of GFWC.

This month I turn the Big 40! I had all kinds of plans to celebrate, but all of them have fallen through for one reason or another. So I will just be working most of the weekend.

I am a mother of two daughters, Alex, 20, and Catherine, a feisty 14. Alex decided to have children earlier than her mother and takes care of my two granddaughters, Kailyn (my buddy) 3 1/2, and Brooklynn, 1. These girls are all drama queens of one variety or another, who take up most of my time.

This past year I decided to take a new course to life and go back to school. I have taken a couple of classes toward my Bachelor’s degree in Communications at University of Illinois Springfield; but with the economy I have put that on hold due to pocketbook constraints. Since I put myself through college to get my Associate’s Degree at a very expensive school, I have student loans I already owe and am trying to pay for school on my own dime this time. So I take classes for free at Lincoln Land Community College since my husband of 16 years, Brendan, is employed there. Right now I take journalism classes and web design/computer graphics courses. These too have been difficult with all the sickness this year.

I am a die-hard bowler. I bowl three nights a week, which is a lot more than I barganed for. I hold a 200 composite average and love to go to tournaments. Keeps the competitor in me alive. Since I spend that much time in the bowling alley, they gave me a job as a bartender 4-years ago. It started as a part-time extra money gig, but is now my 4 night a week main source of income.

As I write this blog one of my other “girls” is bothering me to go out. I have two other girls – Duchess, a 3 yr old black lab/golden mix and Willow, a 4 yr old Basset Hound. Both sleep with my husband and myself and are more pampered than everyone else.

This is all on top of being the IL District 21 President and being a member of the constantly trying to build GFWC Sangamon Valley Jr. Woman’s Club (total of 4 member – 1 unrelated)

You all have the clubwoman who wants to do it all, but everything just gets in the way. That has been me for the past 6 or so months. I won’t go into the gory details about my daughter’s drama, holidays, etc.; but the latest problem has been illness. Nothing major…just allergies, then the flu, then a sinus infection caused by allergies, then the flu again, then another sinus infection, and finally another bout with the sinuses which I hopefully have conquered this time.

Unfortunately one of the things I had to put aside was club work. Not a good thing since I am the President of the GFWC IL District 21. Two cancelled meetings, no yearbook, and a disorganized array of chairmen. Not exactly how I saw my first year going. We have our District Convention in a week and thankfully the host club is a friend and she is on top of things (my second mother as well at times).

Ah the dream of the first year….getting things organized, going to meetings, boosting membership and District comraderie. Bringing in a new club or at least getting a de-federated or non-federated “woman’s club” to be federated. Down the drain….but I keep in my head the words “It’s never too late!”
