I’m A Clubwoman

Our Club has a bit of a tradition, we eat before we meet. It is not my favorite thing, as I am not a fan of brunch, but I do like picnics.

Our club has been very busy the past three weeks doing a fundraiser, a fixer-upper[oops] and a recycling project.

The Woodsmen of America donated a shiny 25 foot tall flag pole for our clubhouse in Spokane. Somehow I had to figure out whether the City would let us install a flag pole on our small urban lot…

What should you do with a picture that wins at your County Fair? Why enter it in your GFWC State photography contest, of course! So I did….not in an ordinary contest though.

I live two blocks from the our local GFWC clubhouse. Two years ago I sort of subtly recruited a new member for my club, Correen.

Who would have thought we’d see another disaster in this century worse than Katrina? True Haiti is not on the soil of the Good Old USA, but it’s so close their refugees sail over here on makeshift boats and frequently drown trying to reach our soil. There are thousands and thousands of Haitians living here in the states.

I admit that when I last tried to post, on November 3, nothing went right with the blog software. I gave up and then life got very busy So here is a short recap of the last 10 weeks of 2009, and a deep breath for a Happy New Year 2010.

My club makes about 80 quilts annually for Operation Smile. This worthwhile charity is partnered with GFWC, and I encourage your club to take up the cause. You can find more information at www.operationsmile.org.

Our club does a unique event to introduce prospective members to GFWC and our club. We hold a New Member High Tea.

I hope you all know about the GFWC campaign of Hats, Gloves, and Bags…usually we put on work hats, garden gloves, and carry big, big trash bags to clean up something or plant something.  So in the spirit of that, the crew running the Great Lakes Regional Conference had us all dress up in semi-formal [...]

Summer is ending and I am just now getting to work on some nagging old clubhouse projects. A one hundred year old building always needs work and work is therapy for my soul [Repeat this mantra].

Wow, Wow, Wow is all I can say after returning from GFWC Annual Convention in Cleveland OH. This was my third time attending and I must say that this was my favorite by far!
